The Frog and Bucket prides itself as developing some of the best comic talents on the circuit. Our amateur night is the most important part of the Frog calendar as it gives us chance to nurture the stars of the future. Past Beat the Frog night regulars have included Dave Gorman, Peter Kay, Caroline Aherne, Smug Roberts and Johnny Vegas. To learn more about the Frog's current "raw comedy" night, visit the Beat the Frog website. www.beatthefrog.com
And the comics that we have supported regularly return to the Frog and Bucket. Johnny Vegas compered our new act competition for the Manchester Comedy Festival '03. "I wanted to give new acts the chances that I got from the Frog" said Johnny. Steve Coogan also tried out some new comedy characters in 2003 at the Frog, as well as old favourites Paul and Pauline Calf.

The Frog and Bucket started life as a small city centre pub on Newton Street Manchester in 1993. Peter Kay did one of his first ever stand up gig at the "little frog" (as it's affectionately known). Comedy rapidly began to take over the entertainment programme of the boozer, and in May 1996 the Perkin family finally admitted that they'd outgrown the pub they loved so much.
They took over what was then a Yates's venue on the corner of Oldham street and Great Ancoats and started to build the Frog and Bucket. Rough, ready and raw in the early days, the Frog still maintains some of that heritage which gives it it's legendary atmosphere, coupled with some of the best comedians from around the world.

"...the best gig I have ever done with this show...I've done the Frog for the last three years. It's a great gig. It's always well attended and I really like Lee (the Manager) who runs it. I've always had fun with that gig...I love this venue" - Richard Herring
