27-10-03 - Beat the Frog, Best of British Final!!

The Frog and Bucket's new act competition culminated in an absolutely storming final compered the genius that is Johnny Vegas!
The man himself takes to the stage, almost sober!
Dan Nightingale preps the crowd as to the format of the night. Johnny Vegas shows that he still has the ability to rip the roof off with only a few words.
The crowd lap it up. Stew Spaull delivers a string of cerebral deadpan one liners to a solid response.
Ken Bulger with his slightly psychotic observational comedy. John Cooper flexes his muscles.
The hobbit like John Cooper delivers an inspired set of puns, surreal observations and tall tales.  A class act. Johnny returns to the stage a little more wobbly but there was nothing wobbly about the laughs.
Dave Purdy with an aggressive, animated set that was right on the money. Barry Dodds with his non pc brand of comedy that went down a treat with the capacity crowd.
Johnny Meditates The simply gorgeous Jonathan Mayor bounds onto the stage with a trail of glitter behind him...
...and drags taxi driver Chris onto the stage. And Jon Mayor leaves the stage to a forced standing ovation!  Good from Jon.  A superb set from him.
Mike Newall struggled little on Monday but still got a good response.  Chris Brooker with a fiery set that couldn't quite wake up the by then very tired audience.
Johnny tries to fire a bit of energy back into the room and then checks his notes. Danny Deegan with an unusually off form set.  Still very good, just not as good as he can be.
Dave Ingram works like a madman to inject some more energy into the room and did a very solid job. Compares his tiny hands to Big Chris's.
Big Chris et al. Dave Purdy and Glitterballs.
Dan brings Lee onto the stage ready to announce the results. Lee has the results in his hand.
And Dave Purdy is announced the winner with Barry Dodds in 2nd and Jon Mayor in third. Dave Purdy, Johnny Vegas and Lee Martin.
Johnny "the main man" Vegas, Dave "BOB" Purdy, Dan "not gay" Nightingale and Lee "Bon Jovi" Martin.

A superb night was had by all and Dave Purdy was a worthy competitor to be pronounced the first Beat the Frog Beat of British.  Big thanks to Johnny Vegas for supporting new comedy talent in Manchester.
