|
My night started brilliantly with Okse showing up with a present for the Frog. One of his fantastic paintings based on one of Andy Hollingworth's (I think, maybe one of Eamonn's) photos. It will soon take pride of place on the wall of the "World Famous", with a very large plug for Okse's Comedy Icons work.

This was followed by me panicking as we only had about 70 people in and only 7 BTF acts. I shouldn't have worried. It soon filled up and all the acts registered turned up. Some later than others... |
| Danny Deegan |
|
|
The crowd was 90% students, and Channel M were in filming a documentary pilot about the frog. From the moment Dan stepped up, you knew it was going to be a classic. The audience were so up for it.

Dave Ingram opened with a 100 MPH re-telling of his first ever gig at the tender age of sixteen. An absolute shambolic ramble but the crowd didn't seem to care and hung on his every word about oversized suits and sh*t gags. |

Dan then returned to the stage and
ripped the sh*t out of Dave. |

Deegan then opened his set by crucifying Ingram, and then proceeded to launch into his similar "drawn out tale with few punchlines in sight" material! This was punctuated with the classic "someone's phone has gone off, lets hijack it" gag. Which went brilliantly as he phoned the lads latest "conquest" to try and find out why she wasn't interested anymore.

After the break the chaos begin with Okse opening with a solid, but not roof raising beating of the frog. |

After that, the night got weird but in the best way. Hats off to Danny Huntley for taking on the three p*ss heads on the balcony. The heckle putdowns he was coming out with were cruel as f*ck, and this guy was massive. Danny, I haven't seen your balls, but they must be huge. |
| Daisy's Lawyer |
|
|
Other highlights included Daisy's rather odd opening to her set with a guest appearance from her Lawyer, Mr. O'Brien. Johnny Clare having his best Beat the Frog ever, Adam Bowman delivering his set at the speed of light, the efficiency with which our doorman dispensed of the noisy element on the balcony... |

...Mike Landers riding the gags with almost German precision, Dan getting boo'd when Owen was carded, and the chants of Owen from around the venue.......and so many more. Including the legend of Brian Lowry. I was loving it until I realised about 3:30 in "sh*t - he could win this.....". Not helped by Spider and Deegan almost dying with laughter. |

After Jonny and Mike were proclaimed kings, Owen returned for an encore, the classic "Frog Skimming". Dan decided to dance along, but threw a hissy fit when he was encouraged to wear the Frog's head. He promptly threw the toys (a Shure SM58) out of the cot and left the stage. Leaving Owen to encourage shiny boy back on for the closing song. A classic night. Don't miss the final! Lee. |
