4-8-03 - Best Night Yet?

An absolutely awesome night at Beat the Frog from start to finish and it was mainly down to the audience being well and truly up for it.

Dan was on top form as compere and was on fire from the word go.

Jason Cooke and Steve Shanyaski filled the opening section with eight minutes each of musical comedy and stand up.  Although they were a complete contrast in terms of presentation. Jason's was a very slick, well structured set whereas Steve's was haphazard to say the least.  Both great performances though and Steve's songs are especially well delivered.

Particular highlights were Dave bishops moist duvet gag, Stew Spaull milking his Pete Towsend gag and then going on to have probably the best gig I have seen him do. 

Other highlights included John Warburton ripping the roof off the venue with five minutes of new material that he'd written that day, Geoff "pasty" Taylor Beating the Frog for the second week running.

Another high point was Dave Bishop heckling Patrick Forde for nicking a Bill Hicks piece.  Mr. Bishop was very upset indeed.

After three acts Beat the Frog in a row, comedy Q took to the stage and threw himself to the floor, and, well that was it.  After only 23 seconds the hooter was sounded and he set the new record for the quickest ever croak!

The filthy Neil Smith delivered a fantastic, animated set and ripped it.  As this weeks winner he'll be back next week to do eight minutes at the start of the show.  Don't miss it.
